I am not your programmer!

There are so many self help coaches and mental spirit guides and brain wizards, mental healers, and all knowing guru’s telling us what to do. I do like to read inspirational things from time to time, however I am not so much into the self help seminar stuff . It just rubs me the wrong way, these people sprout from the ground like weed. And it feels unnatural somehow to me. I am not judging though. And why should I, especially when I had a rough time I decided to watch Tony Robins, “I am not your Guru” on Netflix. (The same I did when I was a bit down I started to watch Marie Kondo, and I hate stuff like it. Now I love her ways…never say never! Sparkjoy!)

I was surprised this man is so famous, people pay 5000 dollars just to go see him. So I kept watching.

Tony Robins

So the title says programmer, I am learning to become a good web developer. It might not be accepted, I might be shunned for saying it. There is a difference to some people to being a developer or programmer.
But I chose this word for a reason. It’s literally what Tony Robin’s is doing. Reprogramming your brain.

For example:

If we would be panicking and someone slaps us in the face. We would stop panicking and be in shock for a second and pain most likely. We cannot experience that and think about our problem at the same time, our brain wont let us. (Hence the self damage people like to do sometimes to “forget”).

Luckily his famous seminars are not about punching thousands of people into the right direction. No, its him talking and using moving , dance, a hint of meditating all while telling you that you can reprogram your brain by “tricking” your brain.
The way you do when u hurt yourself by addictions or negative down spiraling behavior towards yourself.

Your telling yourself if this happens I do this. If I’m hurt or lost I just do this. You do. Look at your patterns . Its years of (usually) bad training! Its not you literally taking that decision out loud. But it slowly became a pattern. It started one day in your life and it became normal. It takes time to undo. When you stress, what do you do ? What do you think?

So don’t expect it within  6 months to be perfect. That is the important part. Accepting that your path is taking you a bit of time. You did something to your brain all your life. And now you decide to recognize it and change it.

I like how he mention that people say “It took me 10 years to finally break the pattern to change my life” but it did not take you 10 years. It took you 10 years to get to that moment and finally say I am sick of it I am going to change it. Because life changes in a moment. It does not happen in a long stretch of years. In an instance your life can be different.

Talking to your brain. Give healthy physical shocks (dance , icebath/shower , ) whilst actively pumping yourself up. Consistently. On a daily base. Will slowly adapt your brain to think differently.

I only know his show, not his books not anything else I know about him. But this is what I got from it. And I like it. I agree with Mister Robins.

You are your own programmer.

You made your patterns.

Allow yourself the time to change those patterns. And know that you can do it. It takes repetition mental breaks when it gets to tough (dance! run ! jump) and keep pumping yourself up. Actually it is proven that you can talk to yourself and it has a similar effect that when people talk to you to cheer you up. It is used in therapy in the Netherlands so it just confirms that we have a lot going for us within ourselves. But we wont allow it because its awkward. Especially at the start. Well be awkward ! Before you know it becomes your new normal !
